MONDAY, June 11, 2018 -- More good news for coffee lovers: Having three or more cups of "joe" each day may help ward off serious liver ailments, new research suggests.
The 26-year study of more than 14,000 Americans couldn't prove cause and effect. However, participants who drank three-plus cups of coffee a day were 21 percent less likely to find themselves hospitalized with liver-related illnesses, the researchers said.
WEDNESDAY, June 13, 2018 -- Eating a Mediterranean diet rich in healthy fats from olive oil and nuts provides better protection against heart attack and stroke than a low-fat diet, a new Spanish trial has shown.
"Extensive research has found a significant benefit of eating a Mediterranean diet, and separate research has shown a significant benefit to the consumption of nuts, particularly walnuts, which was the majority of the nuts in this study," said Dr. Rachel Bond. She is associate director of Women's Heart Health at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.
